There has been a pause in the progress of events
in France, be- tween the appointment of the new 311n1sters and the meeting of the Chambers, which were convened for Thursday the 5th instant. The interval has been occupied by speculations at' the French papers on the probable line of policy to be pursued by the successors of M. TIMERS, and their chances of retaining office. The only Paris journal which cordially supports them is the Journal des Dana's ; and though the ablest of the Paris papers, its influence is much diminished by the known control which Louis PHILIPPE exercises over its views.
it is remarked by persons well acquainted with the state of parties in France, as ominous of a briefearcer for the Cr 1-awe-Sot:LT Cabinet, that notwithstanding the notorious eagerness tif French public men to be in office, not one leader of the Gauche is found in this Ministry. We are still for from despairing that peace may be preserve;1, at least for a time ; but we fear that the national friendship which has existed between France and England since 1830 has cooled. Was the PALMERSTON convention of the 15th July worth such a sacrifice ?
