Lace Making in the Midlands. By C. C. Channer and M. F. Roberts. (Methuen and Co. 2s. 6d.)—In some counties lace- making has entirely disappeared ; in others it still holds its ground, or part of its ground. We agree with the authors of this little volume that it would be a pity were it to cease. A hundred years ago it was anything but a blessing. Schools for lace-making ousted schools for reading and writing. That is not likely to happen again. The industry which remains is wholly unobjectionable, followed as it is by the aged poor, who often are incapable of any other work. Our authors deal with both pest and present, and have given us a valuable little volume.
