SIR,—Mr. M. H Middleton, in his well reasoned and admirably
balanced article on the protest at the Tate, remains like most unprejudiced lovers of contemporary sculpture, I imagine, frankly bewildered, if not a trifle dismayed by the award in the International Sculpture Compe- tition. And if he and your readers have not heard it, surely there is a fellow-feeling expressed in the naïve question of the lady who asked with pathetic sincerity, " But how did they know it was broken ? "-
