[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] Sia,—In your issue of
January 18th LOrd Astor says " The Trade spends large sums in organization to bring pressure to bear on Parliament and the Government to reduce taxes on spirits." It would be interesting if Lord Astor would disclose in what way pressure is brought to bear on the Government. One often sees this statement and wonders how it is done, and, why the Trade should spend " large sums " when there is not the slightest chance of getting any reduction.
