On Monday in the House of Commons the Prime Minister

answered a question concerning the proposed Government grant of £200.,000 for sports grounds for the Civil Service. No one could disagree in principle With the explanation that the grounds are greatly needed and that the provision of such things is in accordance with the -spirit of the times. Decent employers are expected to look after the welfare of their employees. We should have thought, however, that if there is a pledge to be honoured the Civil Servants might in these distressful times regard the grant as a loan and pay a moderate rate of interest on it. Disapproval of the grant has been growing in the Unionist Party.
