The rseeption of Mr. Cuthbert Rippon, on Monday, by a very large and rs .pectable assembly of electors and other inhabitioas of Gates- head, most have been to him highly gratifying, while, we should sup- pose, it must have convinced the Tories how utterly hopeless their at- tempt is out the representation of Gateshead. Mr. Suttees, the Conservative candidate, was present, and addressed the meeting ; but the otht r candidate, Mr. Williamson, of Wickham, did not appear.— Tree Mercury.

There is a rumour that Mr. Brotherton intends to retire from the represeouttion of &dhoti ; and that Mr. John Potter, nephew of the member for Wisan, will be the Radical candidate to succeed him.

Mr. Calthorpe, brother of Lord Calthorpe, will contest Bury on the Tory interest.

Mr. Langdale, brother of Lord Stourton, and Mr. Rich, will oppose Messrs. Lawson and Riehards at Knaresborough.

Mr. Ellis, now in Persia, will be brought forward with Colonel Sibthorpe for Lincolo, in the hope of ousting Mr. Edward Bulwer.

Colonel Rolleston is talked of as the 'fory candidate for South Not- tingtarnshire, to replace Mr. Evelyn Denison.

Mr. Joseph Jones lias been requested by the Tories to stand for Oldham. Gentled Johnsou and Mr. Eielden will be the Radical eandidstes.
