Gear change
Sir: In response to Peregrine Worsthorne's last Diary entry in the Spectator of 25 October, may I suggest that all drivers over 60 be obliged to wear hats. It has been my experience in country areas that drivers with hats deserve 'a bit of extra toleration'. Drivers over 70, in addition to a hat, might wear an inflated 'Mae West' so as to assist their posture at the wheel, provide addi- tional comfort and permit instant recogni- tion by other drivers and police constables.
