Birds in bushes
From Dr Dennis Mollison
Sir: I don't think A. L. Rowse should go in for soft pornography masquerading as literary history in your columns (I refer to the article on Mary Fitton In the Spectator of the 21st April) if he cannot understand the allusion (;11 " she thinketh a bird in the bush Is worth two in the hand." ' Sir William was so upset that he seems to have got the old proverb the wrong waY round ' indeed; it is not Sir William Knollys who is the old bore.
