Soviet dissent
Sir: I apologise to readers for having misled them about Tibor Szamuely, whom I must thank for having corrected me (Letters, August 5). I note that he is not, as I have been imagining, the Tibor Szamuely who had such a distinguished career as a fighting revolutionary in 1917-1919, both in Soviet Russia and in Bela Kun's Communist Hungary, whom he claims to be an uncle of his, and with whose reputation he is often mistakenly credited in the press, and also in academic circles, in this country, with the object, presumably, of giving misplaced ' authority ' to statements of fact and of opinions such as those which I have controverted in my previous letter (July 29). This is the first time, to my knowledge, that he has been incautious enough to expose himself.
