From Mrs E. S. Manners Sir: I would like to

take this opportunity to thank Mr Cosgrave for acknowledging in print, in his last week's article, the scurrilous campaign waged in recent years against Mr Enoch Powell by the press, television and much of the Tory Party. And why? Because he was the only politican willing to put his beliefs before his pay packet, his country before his party. Because he alone has the courage to condemn the two 'major myths of current Conservative thinking — a statutory incomes policy and a federation of Europe — as impracticable and irrelevant to our present troubles. Support for Mr Powell amongst grass roots Conservatives is enormous, but where are the Tory MPs and Editors of the Conservative press with the courage to stand up and say so?
