The packet-ship Yorkshire arrived at Liverpool yesterday ; bringing accounts
from New York to the 18th December, and 45,0001. in specie.
In the Senate, on the 14th, Mr. Dickenson submitted resolutions indirectly re- commending the annexation of Mexico; and on the 15th, Mr. Calhoun brought forward resolutions declaring that to conquer and incorporate Mexico would be a departure from the settled policy of the Union, and subversive of "our free and popular institutions." These resolutions were "laid over for further action."
A heavy flood on the Ohio had destroyed much property.
Reports of country bank failures were rife; but they wanted confirmation.
