Mohammed Ali, the Viceroy of Egypt, arrived at Constantinople on
the 19th July, on a visit to the Sultan.
The Morning Chronicle states that Government has resolved to establish a naval station on Pubs Labuan, off the mouth of the Borneo river; the object being In afford protection to the shipping engaged in the China trade, and to form a coal dip& for the convenience of steamers proceeding to and from Hong-kong or the capital of Eastern Australia by way of Torres Straits. There is no in- tention to form what is called a "settlement."
Advices from Sydney, to the 31st of March, have been received. They an- nounce an extraordinary discovery, by the enterprising traveller Mr. Leichhardt- a tract of country from Gilbert's Lagoon to the Yapper, extending along the East coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria, abundantly supplied with what are apparently permanent pools, lagoons, brooks, and wells of water, and proportionately fertile— openly timbered, clothed with grass, excellently adapted to the grazing of cattle, and to the growth of cotton and rice
