BRITISH VOLUNTARY SERVICE
Stu,—Concern about recent developments in Volun- tary Service Overseas is not of a kind that can be allayed by a conducted tour of the office. The Acting Director and his colleagues have all, it is understood, been distinguished administrators in the Colonial Service in West. Africa. Against this background of experience it would be naive to sup- pose that young volunteers would express misgivings on the organisation to headquarters—or that head- quarters always reflects feelings in the field. It is now becoming apparent that convulsions in VSO's council earlier this year were followed by the departure, within days, of the Chairman, Founder and Director—hardly an indication of 'Business as Usual.' The present administration at least has the chance to make its viewpoint known publicly.
