Corporative

Sir: How can any state be other than a corporate state? The term you should be using (as in your leading article of 30 September) is the corporative state: the reference is surely to the term coined by Mussolini — `lo stato corporativo'.

This, like my reference to Canute you published the other day, is a reproof I have delivered to Walter Salomon and others. After I delivered it to Sir Keith Joseph he took to using the term 'corporatist'. Why he should fight shy of full acceptance of correction from one who really knows is a mystery that could be of interest over a wider area than that implied by just this one term.
