Comments on Circumnavigation
Now that Mr. Wynford Vaughan Thomas is back from his Round the World in Eight Days journey, contrasted comments might be valuable : From the Spectator of September 23rd, 1949: " . . Might be accused of being little more than a stunt. . . . It dots not greatly kindle my imagination." (L. Hale.) From the Spectator of September 30th, 1949: "How dulled must be the imagination of those . . . who experienced no tingling of excitement, no stirring of . .! " etc., etc. (H. Nicolson.) I continued to admire the skill of Mr. Vaughan all the way round the world ; but somehow the tingle and the stirring stayed away from me. Imaginations are kittle and unbiddable things.
