Illuminated Ornaments. Part II.
Presents us with some very striking novelties in these quaintly varie- gated embellishments of missals and manuscripts ; one, in particular, is a scroll of foliage uniting Grecian elegance with Gothic character on style. The contrasts of colour in these curious devices are peculiarly rich, and the fantastic combinations of the designs afford almost unli- mited scope for ingenuity and taste. They display all the wealth of the Barbaresque style of ornament.
