Treasure Hunt
Last week we announced that The Spectator was launching an extremely dif- ficult reader competition, continuing the tradition of recent years. The competi- tion will run for nine succes- sive weeks and the first clue will appear in next week's issue (13 October). The treasure hunt will test read- ers' literary, historical and general knowledge to the full, but the prizes offer the prospect of magnificent reward.
The first prize is two hand-coloured aquatints of India by Thomas and William Daniell, illustrat- ing the Race Ground at Madras (1798) and Sheva Gurry (1804).
Plus two British Airways Super Club return tickets to either Delhi or Bombay. Alternatively tickets to other destinations on the British airways network to the value of the two tickets to India.
The second prize is the complete edition of the Dictionary of National Biography in 29 volumes published by the Oxford University Press at £820.00.
The third prize is two cases of champagne and there will also be many consolation prizes.
