A GREAT MATINEE.

SIE,—Mny I try to enlist the sympathy and support of your readers in a matinee, which will be given on Friday, Novem- ber rith, at the New Theatre (by kind permission of Lady Wyndham and Mr. Matheson Lang)? The matinde is in aid of the higher training of midwives and the British Hospital for Mothers and Babies, Woolwich. Her Majesty the Queen has graciously promised to be present. The following artistes are most generously giving their services: 31r. Matheson Lang, Miss Lillah McCarthy, Milks Gladys Cooper, Mr. E. Ilobnan (lark, Mr. E. Harcourt Williams, Mr. Murray Carrington, and Mr. W. S. Grant, in "The Church Scene" from Much Ado About Nothing; Miss Winifred Emery, Mr. Gerald du Maurier, Mr. Gilbert Hare, and Mr. C. M. Lowne, in a new PlaY by A. A. Milne; Mr. Cyril Maude, Miss Connie Ediss, Miss Iris Hoev, and Miss Doris Cooper, in a new play by W. Pett Ridge; Miss Jose Collins, accompanied by Mr. II. Fraser Simson; Mr. Nelson Keys; Mr. Leslie Faber and Miis Clarke Jervoise, in a one-act drama; and The English Singers: Miss Mont Mann, Miss Winifred Whelen, Miss Lillian Berger, Mr. Steuart Wilson, Mr. Clive Carey, and Mr. Cuthbert 1:ell1. I am very anxious that there should be a large PIM ef money, as proceeds of tho matinde, to support such a "ainable and sound scheme for the welfare of the nation.
