Tudor stick

Sir: A.L.Rowse is being less than fair to Yorkshire in his article 'The beastliest in the realm' (23 May). Yorkshire has come in for a lot of stick lately, but undeserved retrospective Tudor stick is going too far. Surely it was Lincolnshire that was de- scribed by Henry VIII as 'one of the most brute and beastly shires in the whole realm'? Perhaps it's all one to a Cornish- man.
