SHIPS OF THE SEVEN SEAS. By Hawthorn Daniel. (Heinemann. 156.)

This is an exhaustive treatise on an enormous subject, with which the author has a good acquaintance. The book begins with the first log kicked along by-primaeval man, and follows the development of ships to the latest floating hotel and battleship. Enthusiasm and conscientious work have been put into -it, but somehow this reviewer could not get into the ships and feel the life and lift of them. Carefully illustrated and with a good appendix, Ships of the Seven Seas fills its part as a work of reference.
