I cannot pretend that this quotation is from a new
book—it is from quite an old one, the " Recollections " of Dr. Forbes Winslow—but it has some merit none the less: " On the completion of his first year of study he [the writer's brother] was bitten by a mad dog whilst playing in a cricket match, and being apprehensive of the result he suddenly threw up medicine and began to read for holy orders."
