Spoil sports

The dull young things of the Federation of Conservative Students have brought to the Right the manners and style of the polytechnic Left. They seem to care about politics, threatening the apathy which is fundamental to the Conservatives as a mass party. True conservatism is not borne up by ideology, but 'by the availability of pretty gigs at dinner-dances. In place of this they have introduced to the Conserva- tive Party the pleasures of sectarian hatred, so long the preserve of Labour, and may yet turn it into a party of individualists, united only by loathing for one another.
