The Adventures of Hans Midler. By Alice Lang. (R.T.S.) — This
is a vigorous and most interesting story of Luther's time. The hero having made himself objectionable to the priests, is kidnapped, and disappears for some time. He is released from his dungeon at last ; but the vengeance of the priests finally overtakes him, and he is slain. The characters and the dialogue are well contrived, and the story certainly presents a vivid picture of some of the hardships of German converts in humble life. The scene is laid in the Black Forest. The tale might well have been amplified and made into a historical novel, for it is fall of good material and good description.
