Milk subsidy

Sir: In 'Society Today,' Jane McLoughlin (Spectator, September 14) while rightly criticising the subsidy an milk on the ground that both it and its products are in short supply, does not mention the fact that the Ministry of Agriculture are still offering the herd replacement grant to induce farmers to stop producing milk and turn to beef, of which there is a surplus.
