A solution to the mathematical puzzle in this column last

week (six Parliamentary counsel + eight assistants = r3) is suggested. The witness who gave these figures was Sir Granville Ram, First Parlia- mentary Counsel ; asked what staff he had, he gave figures which included himself. Consequently though they added up to z4, the actual staff was only 13. It may be so.
