Varicose veins

Sir: 'You are old, Father William, the young man said, You are old and remarkably fat, And yet you repeatedly stand on your head, Pray what is the reason for that?'

In Alice in Wonderland no satisfactory explana- tion for this behaviour was ever adduced, but with your correspondent's letter (28 April) before us, we may now know.
