SIR,—Miss Virginia Graham writes (Janu- ary 22nd) of the extravagance of gestures in The Battleship Potemkin which seems a weak- ness to the modern viewer. There may be much that is wrong with Eisenstein's famous propaganda film; but it should be said, in fair- ness to the original, that the version at present showing in London has- been tampered with to provide a copy running at the speed of sound film (i.e. 24 frames per second, against 16 for
