Chip-Carving. By Eleanor Rowe. (B. T. Batsford. ls.)—This little book is written with complete technical knowledge and great clearness of statement. Chip-carving should be attempted by those who fear to embark upon the complications of carving in relief. This style is fundamentally the ornamentation of flat surfaces with triangular cuts. Of course, these cuts can be infinitely varied in shape, and in practice patterns of very great elaboration can be worked. All the same, the flat surface is never quite lost.
