" THE LAST CHANCE FOR THE LEAGUE."

[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,-I hesitate to make a second descent upon the corre- spondence columns of the Spectator, but feel compelled to challenge the accuracy of your statement that " for four years the League contained no ex-enemy State." Both Austria and Bulgaria have been members since December, 1920, while Hungary has been a member since September, 1922. Czecho-Slovakia, although hardly an " enemy State," in the sentimental sense, was part of the old Austrian Empire, and has been a member of the League since January, 1920. It is clear, therefore, that all the enemy States, with the exception of Germany and Turkey, became members of the League during the period in question.—I am, Sir; &e., H. H. STA1NTON.
