PRESERVATION OF TIMBER.

The largest and handsomest trees in the North Riding of YorIcshire stand in the garden of the Hinderwell Vicarage. The North Riding County Council intend to cut down most of these trees to make a new road. The Vicarage, which is even older than the trees, will be maimed and insulted. Is there any way of stopping them ? I am sorry to ask for space on a matter which can hardly have much public interest : Hinder- well is a remote place, about twenty miles from the nearest through traffic. But it is no good to wait till the trees arc down and then try to raise a protest.—E. PEASE, Hinderwell, North Yorkshire.
