THE CITY OF LONDON MATERNITY HOSPITAL
[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.]
SIR,—This ancient charity is the oldest maternity hospital in England, and the only one of its kind in the City of London. For 175 years it has carried on its noble work among the poorest inhabitants of the City and its neighbourhood. It is twenty years since it made any appeal for public support, but to-day it is driven to ask for £30,000 to help it pay off its Bank Loan, and to meet the ever-increasing calls on its services. If this appeal fails, the sad task of closing its wards will inevitably begin. In the names of the poor women and little children of the world's greatest city, I appeal for your readers' help to prevent this tragedy. Donations should be sent to the Organizing Secretary, Dept. S, Special Appeal Fund, City of London Maternity Hospital, 102 City Road, (Chairman).
