Fain is the Sword, a weapon of delight !
But fairest when the flashing blade obeys A practised hand, an arm of giant might: Swift as-a meteor flaming through the night, With irresistible force it falls and slays.
More fair than sword of steel, most exquisite, When man's the instrument, whose deeds requite The perfect work of many patient days.
Hail Nansen, crowned with courage fit to grace Thine iron frame, and stern heroic face.
Go, wrest her secret from the Arctic clime !
