MIND AND MATTER. By C. E. M. Joad. (Nisbet. 48.

6d.) IN this brief "Introduction to the Study of Metaphysics"

Mr. Joad surveys, in lucid and non-technical language, the main current theories of the nature of mind, the nature of matter, and of the inter-action between the two. He sums up with a constructive essay of his own, in which, denying the purely mechanistic view of the universe, he takes his stand upon what Mr. Shaw calls "The Life. Force." The peculiar value of Mr. Joad's book to ordinary readers lies in the skill with which he finds apt illustrations for his points.
