[To THE EDITOR OF THE "SPECTATOR "] SIR,—Those who knew Frederick Maurice, or have read his Life by his son, know that he always repudiated the sugges- tion that he was the leader or even a member of any party, and most of all of the so-called Broad Church, which he held to be a narrow-minded sect. Now in the just issued report of the National Portrait Gallery trustees, he is actually de- scribed as the leader of the Broad Church party.—I am, Sir,
