We have more than once referred to the remarkable survey

of the Gold Coast, on a scale of two miles to an inch, which is being made by the Colonial authorities and published by Messrs. W. and A. K. Johnston. A new sheet, for the Koforidua district north of Accra, has just appeared and deserves com- mendation as a fine piece of cartography. The difficulties of mapping the West African bush must be enormous, but they have been faced and overcome by the British military engineers.
