Mr. Monk, who is apparently the author of a good many books on the Burford district in Oxfordshire, has reprinted from a local newspaper, with some additions, this description of the road from Cheltenham to Oxford, via Burford. He is careful to give an account of anything of architectural or historical interest on the route, and succeeds in making a sensible and entertaining little book out of the subject. For this reason it is a pity that he has not made his book more attractive by providing a map of some kind and substituting photographs, where possible, for the uninteresting pen-and- ink drawings that face the reader on every other page or so.
