Advent for Israel
Sir: Mr Hyam Maccoby (Letters, 20 May) might well have added that all the biblical laws about crop rotation (land resting) and property tenure evidence permanent occupation and not a mere nomadic state of affairs.
The Divine intention for Israel is very clearly set out in the Bible. Israel is to be the principal social, political and religious basis of the coming world epoch. Orthodox Jews consider that occurrence will take place at the Advent they expect — for them a first Advent. Faithful Christians expect it at the Second Advent, when all the following events take place: 1) Spiritual Israel will be grafted into racial Israel 2) All tribes of racial Israel as well as the Jewish element will be restored 3) The Jews will be converted to Christ at His Second Advent 4) The present expectations of humanistic radicals that some kind of political world government will fulfil millennial promises will be shown, to be quite false.
In the meantime we shall see a miraculous continued preservation of existing Zionism which is the Divine government of great events, as the prophets make clear. de Grantmesnil
