THE BELLS OF HELL

SIR,--Your correspondent is right in tracing the words back to the Week-End Book—where I found them, with great joy, at the age of fourteen. Where the Week-End Book got them is, of course, another matter.

The tune—which is a good one—was originally sang, or so my mother told me, to the words She only answered ting-a-ling-a-ling. arid came from a musical comedy coinciding in time with the first popularity of the safety bicycle. But alas, I have for-
