Sir: Humphry Smith's depiction of the worst of British tourism (10 August) reminds me of what an American friend (alas no longer with us) found to be the best.
Knowing London better than most Lon- doners, he used to claim that the most stim- ulating unsung experience for the male visi- tor is to stand opposite Hannah House in Manchester Street W1 and watch the glori- ously virginal Marks & Spencer girls going to lunch.
