The position of General Smuts as a member of the

War Cabinet was discussed at question time on Monday in the Commons. Mr. King foolishly interpreted Mr. Boner Law's disinclination to amplify his previous answer to mean that when •General Smuts attended he must not speak or express his opinion ! On this Mr. Benar Law observed that he did not think General Smuts would accept such a position, and certainly no Government would ask him to do so. He added, however, that when the War Cabinet were discussing matters relating solely to domestic affairs General Smuts, at his own, suggestion, would not interfere—a fine example, so it seems to us, of the " self-governing " mind which does not want to govern any one else.
