Sir R. Murchison has been created a baronet. His claims
seem to be considerable attainments in geology, great readiness to do the representative work of scientific associations, and a social position unusual with scientific men. Oddly enough, his most recent appearance before the public, like Sir W. Fergusson's, has been in defence of Mr. Eyre. The Governor was a brave explorer, and could not therefore have let loose troops upon black persons as a measure of precaution.
