The Geology of the British Empire. By F. R. C.

Reed. (Arnold. 40e. net.)—This is a compact account of the geological character of each part of the British Empire overseas, including the manda- tory territories, but not including the British Isles. It is based on a mass of scattered memoirs, to which exact references are given, and is well planned and fully illustrated with maps and diagrams. Such a book was much needed for reference. The chapter on each region contains a section on economic geology ; thus the detailed information in regard, for example, to oil deposits can be readily found. The accounts of the geology of South Africa and Australia are particularly clear and good.
