A History of Art. By Dr. G. Carotti. (Duckworth and

Co. 5s. net.)—The amount of information crowded into this little book is very great. The present volume—the second—deals with the Middle Ages, and includes the architecture, sculpture, painting, and industrial arts of Europe and the East. Besides the accounts of actual monuments, the general introductions to each subject are written with great clearness and insight. Indeed, our only cause of complaint is the smallness of the book, which necessitates such tiny illustrations; they are, however, remarkably clear for their size. The work is to be completed in four volumes.
