In the House of Commons on Wednesday Mr. Chamberlain announced
a notable success against the Turks in Mesopo- tamia. Telegrams received from General Sir John Nixon stated that the enemy's positions astride the Tigris, near Kut.el-Amara, about one hundred miles south-east of Baghdad, had been stormed by the British. The Turks were in full flight to Baghdad with the British in pursuit when General Nixon's second telegram was sent. Our casualties are estimated at under five hundred, but those of the Turks had been much heavier, and many guns and prisoners had been captured.
