German Rearmament
SIR,—I wish to protest yet once. again against the attitude expressed in such a sentence as, "The only ultimate guarantee of peaceful policy lies in the German conscience," on the front page of the Spectator of November 25th. The sentence describes the situation as it was in 1900-14 and again in 1925-39 ; and look what came of it. The French, who are nearer to'the danger, have been badly treated by ;those who. without sufficient protest from us, acted in our name as if fhe German conscience was (and will be) "irstlficient guarantee of peace.—I am, Sir,
Guisborough.
