WEDDING PRESENTS ON SHOW.

[TO THE EDITOR CF THE " SPECTATOR."]

SIR,—I was glad to observe what I think will be a great advantage in our social customs, the absence of exhibiting the presents at a wedding " At Home." A short time ago a daughter of one of our wealthy merchants was married, and I was very pleased to see no list of presents given, nor were the guests at the wedding shown the gifts; the family considered that these gifts were a personal token and not intended for parade and criticism. It is wonderful how pleasant it was to be entertained as friends without having to crush through rooms to criticize. It certainly made the afternoon an enjoyment—not a tax.—
