that in quoting J. K. Stephen's epigram on Oscar Browning I did not verify my quotation. Indeed I have never discovered where the original is to be found. But I will not defend my version against that propounded by "Janus." For it agrees in all but a single word with that forwarded by a correspondent to the Daily Telegraph following the centenary article which I wrote for that paper.
