Mingling with gods
Sir: I wish to call to your attention a review by Julie Burchill of my book Marilyn's Men (Books, 1 August). I was not bothered by 'I divorce thee — I divorce thee — I divorce thee —'
Burchill's opinion of the book, but my pri- vate life is none of her business and I resent her assumptions in print. Her job is to review books, not pretend to know intimate details of an author's marital status and physical characteristics. It's uncalled for.
I have mingled with screen gods and god- desses during my tenure at the National Broadcasting Co. and as the wife of a tele- vision producer. I have never been bone- thin in my life, do not wear contact lenses, and I don't live in Manhattan.
I resent Burchill's using her imagination to paint an unkind and untrue picture of me. She might spend more time reading than speculating.
