The greatest?
Sir: In the Spectator of 1 April you devoted no less than three articles to the season's international rugby scene. In none of them was there any mention of Andy Irvine, an omission so singular it can only consign Messrs Watkins, Morgan and Wheatcroft to a category theologians reserve for the wilfully ignorant. Scotland could only achieve the wooden spoon this season, but that is no reason for ignoring either Irvine's spectacular try (obstruction notwithstanding) against France, or the claim he has to be considered the best full-back playing today.
