The Apocalypse of St. John. By the Rev. George Thomas
Jowett. (H. Frowde. Is. net.)—Dr. Jowett gives a clear and impartial statement of the controversies which have been con- cerned with the date, authorship, and interpretation of the Apocalypse. As to authorship, external evidence is very strong for identifying it with that of the Gospel and the Epistle ; of the internal evidence the same cannot be said. The interpreta- tion has taken a step forward. No one now would attempt to find the Number of the Beast in the numerical values of the name Ludovicus (50, 5, 500, 5, 1, 100, 5), and discover a symbolism in the name of Napoleon.
